About AutoFlaws
AutoFlaws turns the U.S. government's vehicle safety records into clear answers for drivers and car buyers: what goes wrong with a given model year, at what mileage, which recalls apply and how the car scored in crash tests.
Where the information comes from
Every number on this site is computed from public data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): owner complaints, safety recalls, defect investigations and New Car Assessment Program crash ratings. VIN decoding uses NHTSA's vPIC vehicle database. We do not write reviews, invent ratings or publish anything we cannot trace back to that data. See data sources and methodology.
How it stays current
An automated job downloads NHTSA's files every day, checks them for errors and rebuilds the pages. If a download fails, the site keeps the last verified data rather than showing incomplete information.
Independence
We are an independent publisher, not affiliated with NHTSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation or any vehicle manufacturer, and nobody pays us to show or hide information. The site is funded by advertising.
