Owners who wrote down what they paid or were quoted put the typical electrical system repair on the Ford Taurus at $900, and half of them between $330 and $1,100.

Based on 12 NHTSA complaints about this problem alone that state a repair bill or quote (2002–2022), converted to 2026 dollars with the U.S. consumer price index. These are owners' own figures, not a quote: they include dealer quotes, and owners who file complaints often faced larger repairs, so they can run higher than typical shop prices. Prices vary by shop, region and warranty coverage. How we calculate this.

Model years: 2017, 2018

Problem: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford Taurus vehicles equipped with mechanical key ignition systems. The keys for these vehicles may be able to be removed from the ignition when transmission is not in the PARK position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection."

Risk: If the key is removed from the ignition while the vehicle is not in the PARK position and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter assembly, free of charge. The recall began May 11, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C02.

Electrical system: instrument cluster/panelApr 10, 2006 · NHTSA campaign 06V119000 · 19 vehicles

Model years: 2006

Problem: Certain passenger vehicles built for one specific fleet customer were modified for optional hands-free cellular phone operating capability. To provide this functionality, a special overlay wire harness was installed that inadvertently did not include the circuits for passenger air bag deactivation indicator (padi) lamp function. As a result, these vehicles do not comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 208, 'occupant crash protection.'

Risk: The padi lamp will fail to illuminate and the air bag warning lamp in the cluster will stay illuminated.

Fix: The fleet customer was notified and all vehicles have been repaired. The recall began on april 28, 2006.
