Owners who wrote down what they paid or were quoted put the typical engine and engine cooling repair on the Toyota Tundra at $2,900, and half of them between $1,350 and $4,700.

Based on 28 NHTSA complaints about this problem alone that state a repair bill or quote (2003–2012), converted to 2026 dollars with the U.S. consumer price index. These are owners' own figures, not a quote: they include dealer quotes, and owners who file complaints often faced larger repairs, so they can run higher than typical shop prices. Prices vary by shop, region and warranty coverage. How we calculate this.

Engine and engine cooling:exhaust systemMar 30, 2005 · NHTSA campaign 05V123000 · 5,726 vehicles

Model years: 2004, 2005

Problem: Certain pickup trucks equipped with both vehicle stability control (vsc) and the trd dual exhaust systems. The trd dual exhaust system met all clearance specifications on models without vsc, however the driver's side exhaust located in a position where contact between a brake line found only on vehicles with vsc and the trd exhaust pipe might occur.

Risk: In this condition, the exhaust pipe flange may rub against the right rear brake line, which could cause brake fluid leakage. This could lead to an increase of vehicle stopping distance, which could result in a crash.

Fix: Dealers will inspect and, if so equipped, will replace the trd dual exhaust system free of charge. During this replacement, the dealer will also inspect the specific brake line to assure it has not been damaged and replace it if necessary. The recall began on may 31, 2005. Owners should contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
